Lyrical Singing

Graduated from the Conservatory of Cagliari with honors, she embarked on a rapid career that has led her on the stages of the major theaters in the world, among them: Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Regio of Parma, Regio of Turin, “la Fenice” in Venice, “Carlo Felice” in Genoa, Comunale of Bologna, Maggio Musicale in Florence, “Petruzzelli” in Bari, “Massimo” in Palermo, Arena di Verona, Wiener Staatsoper, Opernhaus in Zurich, Deutsche Oper in Berlin, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Hamburgische Staatsoper, Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, Opéra Royal de Wallonie, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Teatro Real in Madrid, De Nederlandse Opera, Den Norske Opera, Washington Opera, San Diego Opera, Palm Beach Opera, Shanghai, Seoul, Tokyo.

She has collaborated with the most important conductors: R.Chailly, D.Gatti, G.Gelmetti, D.Harding, F.Luisi, N.Luisotti, Z.Mehta, F.Welser-Möst, R.Muti, K.Nagano, M.Plasson, E.-P.Salonen, C.Thielemann, M.Viotti and with directors of the caliber of: H.De Ana, R.Carsen, L.Cavani, D.Livermore, C.Levi, G.del Monaco, D.Pountney, L.Ronconi, R.De Simone, P.Stein and G.Vick.

Her vocal flexibility and knowledge of different singing styles and techniques have allowed her to interpret over 50 different operatic titles! Among them stand out the masterful Verdi’s interpretations of: Aida, Alzira, Un Ballo in Maschera, Il Corsaro, Don Carlo, Falstaff, Un Giorno di Regno, Giovanna D’Arco, Macbeth, Messa da Requiem, Nabucco, Oberto, Il Trovatore, I Vespri Siciliani and Puccini’s roles: La Boheme, La Fanciulla del West, Madama Butterfly, Manon Lescaut, Sister Angelica, Tosca, Il Tabarro and Turandot.

She has successfully given voice to the Monteverdiani baroque roles of Octavia in Poppea’s Coronation at La Scala in Milan and Orfeo (in the title role), Donna Elvira’s Mozartian roles in Don Giovanni and Vitellia in Tito’s Clemenza. She gave proof of fine belcantist with performances of Bellini’s Norma, Donizetti’s Lucrezia Borgia and Poliuto (Paolina) and Rossini’s Fiorillo in Turco in Italia.

She has embodied in numerous productions the sensual gypsy Carmen.

Much sought after for both the Verista and Contemporary repertoire: Cavalleria Rusticana, Iris, Zanetto, Andrea Chenier, Fedora, La Cena delle Beffe, La Wally, l’Amore dei tre Re, L’assassinio nella Cattedrale, Il Prigioniero, I Shardana, La Jura, La Voix Humane, L’Heure Espagnole, Edipo Re.

The opera Donna di Veleni was specially designed for her by the composer Marco Podda.

In the next season she will make her debut in La Samaritana and the Stabat Mater by Refice for the “Toscanini” of Parma.

Remarkable her collaborations with the London Philharmonia Orchestra for the Prisoner of Dallapiccola conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen at the Royal Festival Hall in London, with Sveriges Radios Symfoniorkester in Stockholm conducted by Daniel Harding in Cavalleria Rusticana e Tabarro, 

with the Symphonieorchester des Bayeriscen Rundfunks in Munich always in the Prisoner of Dallapiccola directed by Esa-Pekka Salonen.

In 2013 she made her operistic directorial debut with La serva padrona di Pergolesi, which she took on tour, then she staged, with great success, Puccini’s La Boheme, of which he oversaw: direction, sets and costumes as well as vocal preparation.

Her Masterclasses (Bottega della Lirica, Centro studi Mascagnani di Livorno, Accademia del Belcanto di Martina Franca, AMO di Novara) are in great demand and many of her students already successfully perform on world stages. She has taught singing at the Conservatories of Music in Venice, Piacenza, Trento, Riva del Garda and Udine and currently holds this role at the Conservatory “G. P. da Palestrina” in Cagliari.

Her discography includes numerous recordings, including Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni and AIDS Gala for Decca, Teseo Riconosciuto by Spontini, Il Turco in Italia by Rossini, Messa and Magnificat by Cavalli, Two Catanese Masses by Bellini and Verdi’s Macbeth dvds for Tdk live from Zurich, Cavalleria Rusticana from the Zurich Opernhaus, Assassinio nella Cattedrale by Pizzetti for Decca awarded the Diapason d’Or, Poliuto by Donizetti, Il Tabarro by Puccini from the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. I Shardana by Porrino and Giulietta and Romeo by Vaccaj for Dynamic, Iris by Mascagni.

She joined Andrea Bocelli in the Concerto-Evento of Lajatico 2013 for humanitarian purposes. In 1998 Paoletta Marrocu was nominated Artist for Peace by UNESCO, which she feels the enormous honor and responsibility.
