Opera Choir

Alberto Veggiotti studied and perfected his skills under Maestro Folco Perrino at the Conservatories of Alessandria and Novara, graduating in piano with top marks and honours. He began his artistic career as a soloist in important theatres in Italy and Europe, in important festivals and concert seasons, with numerous symphony and chamber orchestras, including: the Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz, the Janacek Philarmonia Ostrawa, the M.A.V. Budapest, Györ Philharmonic, European Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble Instrumental de Grenoble, Sinfonietta Salzburg, Prague National Theatre Orchestra and United European Community Orchestra, U.E.C.O. and many others and with ensembles such as Prague Wind Quintet, Ceske Nonet and UECO Soloists.

For RAI, R.T.B.F. and the Magyar National Radio he recorded music by G. Martucci, the D minor concerto by J. S. Bach and the piano concerto by R. Schumann, broadcast live on radio.

He has performed as solo pianist in important concert festivals in Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Switzerland, England and in prestigious halls, such as: Sala Verdi, the Teatro alla Scala, the Piccolo Teatro and the Palazzina Liberty in Milan, the Teatro Comunale in Modena, the Sala Bossi in Bologna, the Palamostre Theatre in Udine, the Teatro Ventidio Basso in Ascoli Piceno, the Teatro di Corte of the Reggia di Caserta, the Filarmonica Laudamo in Messina, the Salzburger Residenz, the Salzuburger Museum Konzerte, the Rudolfimum in Prague, the National Gallery in Budapest, the Bartok Hall in Szombathely, the Municipal Theatre in Carcassonne, the Symphonie Konzerte der Stadt Lahr, The Octagon Theatre in Yeovil and in the Faraggiana and Coccia theatres in Novara.

He studied composition in Milan with B. Bettinelli, conducting in Brescia with A. Galliera and graduated in Music Didactics at the Conservatorio “G. Verdi” in Turin. He also studied choral music and choir conducting with B. Zanolini, D. Tabbia and K. Koetsveld. 

Since 1996, he has been working as a choir conductor for the Piccoli Cantori di Santa Maria, the children’s choir of Novara Cathedral, with whom he has conducted numerous productions of baroque and classical music, collaborating with ensembles such as the Orpheum Consort Wien, the UECO Orchestra (Passione Secondo Matteo by J. S. Bach) and conducting the Passion according to Matthew by J. S. Bach. S. Bach) and conducting the orchestra il Quartettone and the Orchestra of the Langhi Academy in several productions of Cantatas and the Magnificat (BWV 243) by Bach, Caldara and Vivaldi, with whom he represented Italy at the XXXIX World Congress of Pueri Cantores in Paris, in the Gala Concert in Saint Sulpice. In 2013 and 2016 he conducted the Gala Concert of the National Congress of Pueri Cantores, in the Church of Santo Stefano dei Cavalieri in Pisa and in the Upper Basilica of Assisi.

In 2018, he was elected President of the Italian Pueri Cantores Federation, after having served as Vice-President since 2014. As President of the Organising Committee of the XLIII International Pueri Cantores Congress, he is responsible for the staging of the “Gaudete et Exultate” Festival, scheduled to take place in Florence in July 2022.

He is also the director of the Accademia Langhi Children’s Choir, with which he has collaborated on the staging of operas at the Teatro Coccia in Novara, the Teatro Sociale in Mantua and the Donizetti Theatre in Bergamo. In the same theatres he collaborated in 2008 in the production of Bizet’s Carmen, in 2009 in the production of Puccini’s Turandot and in 2010 in the production of Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci. In February 2011 he directed the first performance in modern times of the fairy tale opera “Ghirlino” by L. Ferrari-Trecate, staged in co-production with the Teatro Coccia of Novara, as part of the Rassegna Teatro ragazzi e Giovani Piemonte. In the opera season 2011-2012 he collaborated with Teatro Coccia and Teatro Donizetti of Bergamo in Madama Butterfly, Bohéme and Carmen under the direction of G. Acquaviva and V. Galli.

In 2012-2013 he conducted, again at the Teatro Coccia in Novara, the opera Brundibar by Hans Krasa on the occasion of the Holocaust Memorial Day, in the production by Emiliana Paoli, repeated in November at the Teatro Civico in Vercelli.

In the 2013-2014 season, he conducted S. Prokofev’s Peter and the Wolf, in a theatre and music performance by Sergio Bustric, and the opera Lo Scoiattolo in Gamba by Nino Rota, again at the Teatro Coccia in Novara.

In December 2014 he took part – as pianist and opera coach – in the world premiere of the opera “Il Canto dell’Amor Trionfante”, written by composer Paolo Coletta on a text by Turghenev, as part of the project on Russian memories commissioned by the Fondazione Teatro Coccia in Novara. In February 2015 he collaborated on the new production of Turandot at the Teatro Coccia, directed by M. Beltrami and directed by M. Martini. In the following opera seasons he was the director of the children’s choir in productions of Carmen, directed by Sergio Rubini, and two world premieres: the opera musical Ami e Tami by Matti Kovler and Donna di Veleni by Marco Podda.

In recent years, for the “I Ragazzi all’Opera” festival, he has overseen choral projects in Novara’s schools, with a choir of 150 students performing in the stage productions of Turandot, Bohème, Aida, Carmen and Nozze di Figaro for each different production.
