1. Applicants
The course is open to a maximum of 10 candidates of any nationality who are 18 years old or older.
2. Purpose of the course
The course is aimed at specializing within the lyrical and musical productions of an opera coach (piano accompanist, stage musical assistant, lighting assistant, assistant); includes lessons combined with intense work experience activity within the productions of the Coccia Theater in Novara, which allows students to experience the direct experience of the stage.
3. Duration
The course is annual and will take place at the Coccia Theater in Novara in several noncontinuous periods from JANUARY 2025 to DECEMBER 2025. The lessons will be planned in accordance with the Theater's programming, with particular attention to musical theater productions and in parallel with the lesson of the other courses. In the event of interruption of the course "due to force majeure", lessons and work experience periods will be postponed. At the end of the course, a certificate of attendance will be issued, subject to satisfaction of the conditions set out in point 8 of this Open Call (see below).
4.Training program
The course will be structured in 23 days of theoretical and practical lessons and 50 days of work experience. TThe study program is aimed at the study of the lyrical repertoire and contemporary opera together with the creation of productions included in the program for the 2025 season. The students selected to participate in the productions will receive a fee which will be communicated at the time of selection. The calendar of lessons may undergo changes which will be communicated to the students promptly.
5. Application procedure for selection
In order to be admitted to the selection, Piano skills are required (corresponding to at least a three or two-year conservatory level even if you do not yet have the corresponding certification), a good knowledge of harmony, counterpoint and the musical theater repertoire. To access the selection, it is necessary to send the following documents by email (subject of the email “AMO – OPERA COACHES COURSE”):
- This Open Call filled in all its parts and initialed on each page;
- Completed application form (attachment A) with copy of the identity document and tax code NB: (foreigners are also required to send valid visa / permit of stay, or adequate documentation certifying their renewal);
- Detailed educational and artistic curriculum;
- Video of 2 arias of your choice, of which at least one ensemble scene (duet, trio, quartet, scene with choir) and at least one piece in Italian. In both pieces the candidate will have to play and indicate the singing parts with his voice. (Send link to YouTube with date and place of recording);
- Receipt of payment by bank transfer in favour of Fondazione Teatro Carlo Coccia di Novara IBAN IT 80 X 05034 10100 000000042424 of the application fee of € 40,00 (VAT included).
NB Bank commission costs are entirely borne by the candidates
ATTENTION: all the files requested above must be sent in complete and correct PDF
format (NO PHOTOS).
For students who have already attended one year of the Course and wish to enroll in
subsequent years, it is still required to send the admission application accompanied by
points 1, 2, 3 and 5 as stated above. The sending of video materials is not required
whereas a new payment of the application fee of € 40 is required.
6. Live audition and selection
Students pre-selected based on the videos sent will be able to participate in the live
audition which will be held at the Coccia Theater in Novara at the end of October 2024.
For the live audition, candidates must present an aria and an ensemble scene chosen
from the following authors:
- G. Puccini
- G. Verdi
- G. Rossini
- WA Mozart
The candidate will have to play and indicate the parts of the song with his voice.
3. Performance of a contemporary opera scene and a melologue for piano and voice
that will be sent to suitable candidates two weeks before the audition.
7. Deadlines and terms
- by and no later than 24:00 GMT+1 on Tuesday 1 October 2024 applications for admission, accompanied by what is indicated in point 5, must be sent to the email address segreteria.amo@fondazioneteatrococcia.it
- by Wednesday October 16, 2024 candidates eligible for selection will be notified of the day and time of the audition via email;
- at the end of any in-person auditions which will take place on Wednesday 30 October 2024 and Thursday 31 October 2024 , the names of the candidates admitted to the course will be communicated;
8. Costs and conditions of participation
The annual participation fee for the course for admitted students is € 1.200,00 (VAT included).

1st installment deadline: by 18 December 2024
2nd installment deadline: by 26 February 2025
NB: it is MANDATORY to send the payment receipt to the e-mail address
segreteria.amo@fondazioneteatrococcia.it
If the installments are not paid on time as specified, attendance at the course will be
suspended.
Students residing outside the regions of Piedmont and Lombardy will be able to take advantage of the 2025 accommodation agreements.
Attendance is mandatory. This also apply to participation in any theater productions. Any issues that might partially affect your participation in lessons and productions must be communicated to the academy secretariat.
Through special promotions, students will have the opportunity to attend the season's scheduled shows at the Coccia Theater in Novara as audience members.
