1. Applicants

The course is addressed to a maximum of 8 students of any nationality, that must be over 18 at the moment of the application.

2. Purpose of the course

The course is aimed at training professional figures involved in the production of a musical and opera theater performance. The subjects of study will start from the regulations on safety at work (dlgs 81/08, dm 10/03/98), introduction to musical theater and history of the evolution of costume, basic techniques of sewing costumes and knowledge of materials and accessories, the type of rehearsals, the fitting and preparation step (quick changes, repairs) up to the period of maintenance, conservation and storage. The learning process will be integrated to different periods of work experience within the opera and musical theater productions of Teatro Coccia.

3. Duration

The course will take place at Teatro Coccia of Novara, and it will develop during not continuous periods of time starting from December 2020 to May 2021. The lessons will be planned according to the teacher’s schedule, alongside with other courses’ classes. 

In case of course’s interruption, due to reasons of “force majeure”, we will proceed with Distance Learning mode through a dedicated online platform for theoretical lessons, while practical lessons and work experience periods will be postponed.

 

4. Training program

The course will be divided into 116 theoretical and practical hours and 70 work experience days. The programme will be scheduled into the following modules:

INTRODUCTION TO THE WORKING ENVIRONMENT the theatrical machine and its environments. Comparison between the Teatro Coccia and other theaters. Teachers Helenio Talato, Renato Bonajuto, Corinne Baroni. Basic safety course on the workplace, on the stage and application of the Covid-19 protocol. Teacher Ing. Marco Cigolotti (RSPP of Teatro Coccia).

WORKPLACE discharge and under stage, toolroom, stage, gallery, laundry, costume warehouse, tailoring, dressing rooms and placement.

INTRODUCTION TO THE MUSICAL THEATRE interaction of the different professional figures and the different steps of the creation of a show starting from the realization idea. Teacher Renato Bonajuto.

COSTUME HISTORY technical module on costume history, starting from the ‘500 to our days. Teacher Giuseppe Palella.

HAIRSTYLE HISTORY technical module on the hairstyle evolution from the ‘500 to the ‘900. Teacher Mario Audello.

TAILOR’S WORK roles, abilities, characteristics and tasks.

TIMES AND METHODS work during a theatrical production.

WORKING TOOLS knowledge of tools and materials

SEWING TECHNIQUES (buttonholes, hooks, snap buttons, buttons, elastic buttonholed), sewing machine and techniques.

MEASUREMENT AND COSTUMES TRIALS the tailoring card, sizes, mannequins, dress rehearsals, measurement. 

COSTUME DESIGNER birth and project of a stage costume. Teacher Giuseppe Palella.

WORK EXPERIENCE theoretical and practical periods will be alternated with periods of experience in the field during the opera productions of Teatro Coccia to directly test techniques learned and the functioning of musical theater production. 

 

5. Application procedure for selection

Entering the pre-selection doesn’t require any specific qualification, although it is preferable to have a good knowledge of the Italian language, a basic knowledge of sewing and some practical experience.

It will be mandatory to send via email (mail object  “AMO – CORSO SARTA DI SCENA”) the following documents: 

  • Filled out application form (annex A) with copy of your identity document (ID);
  • Professional and educational curriculum;

6. Selection

Curricula will be examined by the academy’s teachers. The candidates will be then invited to an interview aimed to the selection at Teatro Coccia.

 

7. Deadlines and time limits

The application forms, alongside with everything listed at point 5, must be sent to the Teatro Coccia of Novara via email to segreteria.amo@fondazioneteatrococcia.it by and no later than 7th December 2020; the selected students the day and the hour of their audition will be communicated via email by 10th December 2020. 

The interviews will take place on 12th December 2020. 

The names of the students who will be admitted to the course will be communicated at the end of the interviews.

 

8. Costs and conditions of participation

The participation fee for the selected students is of € 600,00 and includes didactic materials.

The fee for the effective students must be payed in 3 installments of € 200,00 each (installments deadlines 31/12/2020 – 28/02/2021 – 31/03/2021) by bank transfer to “Fondazione Teatro Coccia Onlus”, the receipt must be sent via email to segreteria.amo@fondazioneteatrococcia.it

We specify that in case of missing instalment payment by the deadline dates, the course will be interrupted.

The costs of food and accommodation will be at the expense of the students, who can benefit of the agreements that Teatro Coccia Foundation has entered into with hotels and restaurants in the city. 

Course frequency is mandatory for both theoretical lessons and work experience. Possible requirements that may partially compromise the participation in the productions must be communicated at the admission moment.

Students will have the opportunity, thanks to a special membership, to participate as an audience in all the performances of the Teatro Coccia season.
